SAAP also net-works with like- minded technical
institutes and NGOs outside the state to promote technical education
for the underprivileged. Considering the impoverished industrial
climate of Bihar , SAAP grabbed with gratitude the opportunities of
sending our poor and dalit boys outside Bihar for technical training.
We found such training outside Bihar not only improves their
self-belief but also enhances their chance of actually availing
technically oriented jobs.
It all began, when Fr. Mathew chanced upon occasions to send poor boys
for technically training during the course of his many tours in India
to promote renewable energy. We gratefully acknowledge the following
institutions actually opened their doors to train our boys.
- St. Xavier Technical Institute, Sevasi, Baroda , Gujarat
- St. Vincent Technical School , Asansol,
- Boys Town Industrial School , Hydrabad,
- Don Bosco Technical School , Lunknow.
- Monfort Technical Centre, Hazaribag
- Holy Cross Vocational Institute, Lucknow
Last year, we had send 15 boys to St.
Xavier’s Technical, Baroda and three boys to St. Vincent
’s, Asansol. Some of the boys studying in Gujarat in a Gujarati
medium Technical School have shown exceptional motivation and talent by
not just conquering a language barrier but has stood first in their
respective trades. Some who have already have passed out of training
have found job in Gujarat itself, that fills us with hope.
Camp for Technical Education
We decided to organize a Camp to acquaint
us better with the boys and also to impart some basic knowledge
regarding technical training so as to help them to make informed
decisions. The Camp was held from the 23 rd to the 28 th of May. In
puts on Technical education, personality development, dalit
empowerment, together with practical experience of aptitude test in our
workshop were chief contents of the Camp. The sharing of experiences by
students from technical schools in Asansol and Baroda helped the
participants. Nearly forty dalit students from rural Bihar participated
in the camp. The following is the list of students selected from the
camp. They are already studying at the respective places. We whole
heartedly thank these institutions for opening their campus for our
boys.

drop-outs. They stayed at a room belonging to Prabhat Prakashan, in the
BSI campus, free of rent and attended classes at Loyola, Kurji. The
contribution for their maintenance came partly from the candidates and
largely from the sponsors. The most of the boys have found work while
some of them have found inspiration to re-join school to complete
metric.
